It’s The Best!

JAMES WELDON JOHNSON WROTE WORDS TO THIS SONG IN THE LATE 1800’S AS ONE OF THE LAST “JES GREW” SONGS. THE WORDS WERE UNPRINTABLE, BUT THE TUNE WAS  IRRESISTABLE, AND BELONGED TO NOBODY. HE TOOK IT AND RE-WROTE IT AND PUBLISHED THE SONG UNDER THE NAME OF “WILL HANDY”. IT BECAME VERY POPULAR WITH COLLEGE BOYS, ESPECIALLY AT FOOTBALL GAMES.

THE SONG WAS

“DIDN’T HE RAMBLE”

THIS SONG IS A TUNE THAT WAS USED A LOT BY BRASS BANDS FOR A WAKE OR A FUNERAL. THE WORDS WERE PERFECT, SINGING ABOUT THE DECEASED. THEY’D PLAY IT AFTER THE BODY WAS LAID TO REST, ON THE WAY BACK TO THE CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE.

“OH DIDN’T HE RAMBLE”

OCTOBER 6TH

YES!!!

WE WILL BE ‘RAMBLING’ WITH

 “THE RED HOT RAMBLE”

ROBERTA HUNT – PIANO, VOCALS

TOM RICHARDS – TROMBONE

JACK ZORAWSKI – BASS

ALISON YOUNG – SAXOPHONE

GLENN ANDERSON – DRUMS

YOU ALL KNOW WHAT A DAY THIS WILL BE!!

VERSE:

HE RAMBLED IN A SWELL HOTEL, HIS APPETITE WAS STOUT,

WHEN HE REFUSED TO PAY HIS BILL THE LANDLORD KICKED HIM OUT.

HE REACHED TO STRIKE HIM WITH A BRICK, BUT WHEN HE WENT TO STOOP,

THE LANDLORD KICKED HIM IN THE PANTS AND MADE HIM LOOP THE LOOP

CHORUS:

OH” DIDN’T HE RAMBLE, RAMBLE?

HE RAMBLED ALL AROUND, IN AND OUT OF TOWN,

OH! DIDN’T HE RAMBLE, RAMBLE,

HE RAMBLED TIL THE BUTCHER CUT HIM DOWN.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE!

-         THE FATHER WAS LYING IN HIS DEATH BED WHEN HIS SON SAID TO HIM, “DAD, WOULD YOU RATHER BE CREMATED OR BURIED IN THE CEMETERY?”

-         THE FATHER REPLIED, “SURPRISE ME!”

EVER WONDER WHY??

-         PEOPLE GO UP IN TALL BUILDINGS AND PUT MONEY IN BINOCULARS TO SEE THINGS ON THE GROUND.

-

-         WHY DO THEY STERILIZE NEEDLES FOR LETHAL INJECTIONS?

-

-         WHY BANKS CHARGE A FEE FOR ‘INSUFFICIENT FUNDS’ WHEN THEY KNOW THERE ISN’T ENOUGH MONEY

OK! OK! SORRY!

SEE YOU ALL SATURDAY

FOR SOME MORE “RAMBLING”!!
